Hello December. The countdown to Christmas is on! This month I have chosen the perfect book to get you in the festive mood and it’s sure to bring a smile to your face. This month’s book pick is Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella, the latest in the Shopaholic series which I grew up reading so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one!
Sophie Kinsella
Sophie Kinsella is an international bestselling author and has sold over 40 million copies of her books in more than 60 countries, and she has been translated into over 40 languages.
She is well known for her Shopaholic series where character Becky Bloomwood, a fun and feisty financial journalist who loves shopping but is hopeless with money, has to learn to balance her finances, with moving abroad and finding love. Even if you haven’t read the series, you might recognise the name Becky Bloomwood as the book was made into a hit Disney movie in 2009 called ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’, starring Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy.
She has also written many other books which I love including My Not So Perfect Life and Surprise Me which I featured in my summer 2018 reading list!
Christmas Shopaholic
Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) loves Christmas especially now it’s so easy to buy online and get a bargain. The family have a tradition with mum and dad hosting, carols playing and the neighbours popping over for a drink in their ‘terrible’ Christmas jumpers.
When her parents suddenly turn around and ask Becky to host Christmas this year she panics. Where to start? Now on top of thinking of amazing presents for Minnie (her daughter) and Luke (her husband), she has to plan and cater for the whole family on Christmas day. What’s more, the requests start piling in with Jess her sister requesting a vegan turkey!
Thinking it couldn’t get any more stressful, an old boyfriend makes an appearance with his new girlfriend and their motives are unclear. Can Becky pull it off?
I was so pleased when I saw this was being released this year in time for Christmas as there is nothing quite like a Christmas story or movie to get you in the mood for the holidays! Very easy to digest, this should definitely be on your Christmas list. To be read by the fire with a glass of wine (or hot chocolate) one evening. Enjoy x
