In every industry networking and building relationships play an essential part in your personal and professional development. I would even go as far as saying this is THE most important thing you can focus on, especially early in your career, so do make time for it. You never know when that nugget of information you learnt at an event one time will be crucial to a project you’re working on, or that connection you made at a networking session could be career changing (or just helpful)! Building meaningful contacts and learning by listening and talking to others is a powerful way to keep on top of what’s happening in the industry and what better way to do this than by attending some of the most important events in the calendar year. If you’re looking to find like minded people to talk to, share stories with and ask questions of, then this is something you should consider if you aren’t already.
I’m conscious that there are a lot of events and conferences to choose from so how do you pick out the right events for you? Are you looking for generalist events or more specialised workshops? Who do you want to meet? What do you want to learn? Once you’ve thought about these questions then it might help you to shortlist the conferences you’re most interested in. Personally I like to attend a mixture of B2B and B2C focused events as I think it’s important that we learn from each other, especially as the lines are becoming increasingly blurred. I’ve picked out my favourite big ticket marketing conferences and events below to help get you started.
Marketing Week Live
Marketing Week Live is a two-day festival celebrating the industry’s success. This conference gives you a low down on the latest marketing trends, new techniques to become the marketer of today and you’ll have the chance to learn from key solution providers.
Advertising Week Europe

Ad Week is by far my favourite conference so if you only get to one this year, let it be this one. Ad Week brings together everyone from media, marketing, brand, advertising and technology communities across Europe to discuss key business trends, issues, and conversations that help to shape today’s global industry. Advertising Week Europe is actually part of a global network of events in New York, Tokyo, Mexico City and Sydney so if you’re not based in Europe but fancy attending then try out one of the other events.
Brand Film Festival

PR Week and Campaign bring us this conference that celebrates the best of brand storytelling throughout Europe. The two part festival focuses on delivering an afternoon of interesting panel discussions and sessions around the future of advertising and content, preceded by an evening cinematic showcase of the best award entries. If you love storytelling and are interested in how you can make this work for your company then this is not to be missed.

If you’re into the startup scene then this conference is like the startup world of advertising and marketing. Ad:tech London is the UK’s global gathering of advertising and marketing technology players. Expect to hear from brands and technology providers about the latest innovations, trends and solutions on the market.
