Recently there seems to be a ‘day’ dedicated to all walks of life. I don’t remember there ever being this many days dedicated to your favourite foods, drinks or wildlife! It was national burger day last week and lucky for us, it’s World Gin day this Saturday 11 June! (Who even makes this stuff up?)

Gin is my new found love so this is just perfect and what a good excuse to try some new cocktails! If you didn’t know it was World Gin Day this weekend and have no plans then don’t sweat, I’ve got you covered. I’ve dug out a number of events, bars and recipes to keep you busy and the drinks flowing.

1. Junipalooza

Head down to Tobacco Dock for the UK’s largest gin festival – Junipalooza. I love this name.  Apparently Juni is an abbreviation of Gin’s signature botanical, Juniper and palooza is a party (I’ll definitely be using that word more often)! You may have already booked your tickets or you can buy them on the door. This year the focus is on international distilleries; you will get to meet lots of ginsmiths (this is a new word!), attend masterclasses, top up your knowledge and replenish your stores with the world’s best tipple!

Tickets are £39 and are still available but if you’re quick Sunday tickets are on sale for half price!

2. Fever-Tree Mixers Pop-Up

In hope of some sunshine this weekend you can head down to South Bank and indulge in one of Europe’s most awarded Gin’s, Herno Gin, with plenty of mixers, cocktails & there are some surprises in store (apparently)! Make the most of the day by teeing this with a walk along South Bank and some tasty street food to soak up some of the fumes.

3. Gin Masterclass at Fifteen London

To celebrate World Gin Day Jamie Oliver is inviting you to a Gin Masterclass at his restaurant at 15 Westland Place so if you think you have the skills, flair and palette to create the best Gin cocktails then book your space. This is my idea of fun with the girls and perhaps a table afterwards to gossip, catch up and of course drink some more Gin!

Make your reservation here –

4. £5 G&T’s at The Rivington, Shoreditch

If you are a fan of the classic Gin & Tonic then The Rivington is the place to be – they have created the ultimate happy hour – £5 all day! With over 200 varieties you are spoilt for choice. Start early and begin the day as you mean to go on!

5. Homemade Gin Cocktails

For those of you that want to relax this weekend at home, perhaps you have a dinner party planned or some friends coming over or perhaps just spending time with the family, then I am sharing with you one of my favourite Gin cocktail recipes – a British classic.

The Elderflower G&T

1 Fill a chilled glass with cubes of ice

2 Add 50ml of Gordon’s gin and 5ml of Elderflower cordial

3 Squeeze a wedge of lime into the glass and add cucumber and mint

4 Top up with fresh tonic or prosecco and stir.

So there you have it. Five ideas to keep you busy and refreshed this Saturday. Happy World Gin Day, Cheers!

  1. Jess, you’re missing the best options – Shortcross and Jawbox distilled in Northern Ireland – and really local to us!! I think you and Fiona need to come and Vicky and I will take you on a tasting for purely “professional” research!! K

    1. Well there’s only one answer then! Me and Fiona will have to pay you a visit, I’ll have a chat 🙂 Looking forward to tasting Northern Irish distilled gin! Do you have plans for world gin day? J
